A Lay Leaders Reflection on the Cardin Symposium

The 6th Annual Shoshana S. Cardin Symposium featured a panel which included Andrew Cushnir, President and CEO of the Associated, Rabbi Shira Koch Epstein, Executive Director of Atra: Center for Rabbinic Innovation and moderated by David Sachs. The discussion revolved around leading our diverse communities post October 7th and what challenges the Jewish community currently faces. A few Lay Leaders reflect on what they took away from the conversation.

I attended The Shoshana S. Cardin Symposium as a new member of Acharai Cohort X, I was thrilled to be come and connect, engage, and learn alongside the Na’aleh community.

One of the most profound aspects of our gatherings was the realization that many of us face similar challenges. Conversations with fellow participants made it clear that we are not alone in our struggles. Engaging in real, honest discussions proved to be both enlightening and healing.

I also particularly enjoyed the chavruta-style learning, which was a highlight of our time together. This method, rooted in Jewish tradition, emphasizes collaborative study and discussion. Being surrounded by both Jewish professionals and fellow lay leaders added depth to our learning experience. The exchange of ideas and perspectives enriched our conversations and created an event that strengthened the Jewish community.
