Spotlight on President Circle

Once a month, a group of synagogue Presidents and agency presidents come together respectively to connect, reflect, and support one another through the oys and joys of leadership. These circles has become a vital space for navigating challenges, celebrating wins, and fostering meaningful collaboration. Members lean on each other, offer guidance, and often partner in creative ways. Read this impactful highlight from Sally Scott, President of Beth Am Congregation about how Na’aleh’s President Circle highlights the strength and value of this community.

  1. What has been the most meaningful or impactful aspect of being part of the President’s Circle?

I have valued being among people who understand why being a synagogue president is meaningful, rewarding, and difficult, and receiving my fellow presidents’ (and the facilitator’s) understanding, compassion and practical advice.  The structure and facilitation of the Circle helped us to be vulnerable and honest with each other as we dealt with the inevitable challenges that come with the position.

  1. Has your leadership approach changed in any way as a result of the discussions within the Circle?

As a result of discussions within the Circle, as well as the readings that we did to prepare for the sessions, I feel less alone, more connected to other shuls in the Baltimore area, and convinced that the way forward for synagogue leaders is to understand and support each other.  As I address the issues that are specific to my shul, I do so informed by the stories and frameworks that I learned in the Circle.
