Where do you see your Leadership Journey Taking You this Year?

2023 is here, creating a fantastic opportunity to reflect on the previous year and set intentions for the year ahead. As we grow and gain experience as professionals, our goals change. Take this time to consider where you want to be in your job this time next year. Where do you see your career going over the next three to five years? And what steps do you need to take to get there?
- Get Clear on Your Career Priorities
Take stock of where you are in your career. What are some goals you’d like to set based on your work priorities? Are you looking to grow your position or get a promotion? Looking to jump salary brackets or industries? Clarifying your priorities will help you define your career goals this year. - Learn a New Skill
Learning a new skill is always one of the best New Year’s resolutions for career success. Are there any new skills that you want to learn? Perhaps there are online courses, webinars, or books that can help you achieve this goal. You’ll never regret investing in your future. Employers should also consider prioritizing new skill learning for their employees to teach them new and interesting skills in their field or help them achieve career advancement goals. - Embrace Flexibility
If the past 3 years has taught us anything, it’s that flexibility is paramount. With half the workforce dedicated to remaining at home, and the other half still getting used to coming back into the office, managers should consider embracing flexibility in the workplace as one of their New Year’s career resolutions to keep up with the times. Striking the right balance of flexibility and structure will ensure worker productivity doesn’t decrease, while still providing employees with a better work-life experience. - Prioritize Work-Life Balance
All work and no play leads to burnout. It’s important to balance your work and life to reduce stress, be a more effective employee, and live a healthier life. Maybe this year balance is more about setting firm boundaries for you, or it’s about a more seamless integration. Challenge yourself for a few weeks one way, and then switch to the other method. Does your work-life seem more balanced now? - Write it down
Written goals can act as a filter and guiding light for what opportunities to pursue. When in doubt, refer to the goals you have set to point the way forward. Writing establishes intention, but action needs to be taken to achieve your resolution. Having a written account of your goals is a constant reminder to take action, and are a reminder of how far you have come and what you have achieved.
